The Midas Touch of Kindness: How Laksita Leads with Care

In a world that’s always hustling, Laksita takes out time to be kind. You can see it in the pauses she takes, collecting her thoughts with care. “I’ve learnt the quality of hardwork from my father and kindness from my mother,” says Laksita.

Hailing from Salem, a small town in Tamil Nadu, Laksita always dreamt of supporting her father’s bakery business. But her story is one of struggle. “My parents have struggled financially. While they’ve never been to college, they always supported me, especially in a town where girls are rarely sent to North India to study.”

She pursued a B.Tech in food technology only to realise that she preferred more management courses. As she prepared for an MBA, a senior recommended Vedica. “I had so many insecurities and always doubted myself. I could never speak up in class. I wanted to change that.” At Vedica, Laksita vowed to make the best of the opportunity. She took initiatives, put effort into learning and practiced before any presentation.

While Laksita found it difficult to connect with courses on Liberal Arts, they still opened her worldview. “In one of the classes, we discussed how dowry is still quite prevalent. But this was the first time I saw an issue in-depth: the historical context of dowry and how it has evolved over time was revealing. We don’t spend enough time on how things originate, we just judge and move on.”

The first to be placed in her batch, Laksita will now work with Kinara Capital, which offers collateral-free loans to small businesses. Laksita was a shadow mentee of Kinara’s founder, Hardika Shah as part of the Vedica coursework. “I admired her so much. She was bold and assertive but also humble. And people were so kind to me. On my last day, I gave everyone a handwritten letter. I wanted to share kindness back.”

Ask Laksita what her vision is now and she says: “I want to be an example for other girls from my town. I want to make an impact.” Seeing her, parents in Salem are slowly prioritising women’s higher education. Slowly, but surely, Salem is riding the wave of change.
